Parent Aide

Volunteer Position Description

• Provide support, friendship and encouragement to an isolated parent
• Provide role modeling to enhance parenting and child management skills
• Help reduce the isolation felt by parent by connecting them to community resources
• Meet with the parent(s) on a regular weekly basis
• Make contact with the worker(s) as required

• Social Worker 

• Good interpersonal skills, effective listener
• Resourcefulness and a good understanding of available community resources
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
• An understanding of anti-oppression practices and willingness to embrace these practices
• Reliability

• 2 – 3 hours weekly 
• Minimum one year commitment

• Basic Orientation – mandatory
  
• Annual workshop
• Support and training meetings

• Opportunity to work directly with clients
  
• Opportunity to build knowledge of community resources
