May 30, 2023, 13:59 PM

Milestones Grill & Bar Heartland Centre hosted a fundraiser for Peel CAS’ Trailblazers Youth Centre on Thursday, May 25 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. where the $13,600 raised will help extend programs to young people in Peel region.

“From employment and education sessions to life skills and financial literacy, our goal is to build upon the achievements of our Trailblazers Youth Centre by extending these programs to community groups in the near future,” said Mary Beth Moellenkamp, CEO at Peel CAS. “Together we are strengthening our services to help young people succeed by providing opportunities for fun and recreation while helping them build social connections with peers, nurture positive well-being, and learn important life skills from mentors.”

In partnership with Peel Children’s Aid Foundation (Peel CAF) the funds will be used to enhance programs offered through the centre, including career resources, networking opportunities, and cultural identity, alongside the expansion of supports for anti-human trafficking and housing.

“Every young person deserves the joy and camaraderie that comes from an opportunity to participate these programs,” said Maryann Kerr, CEO at Peel Children’s Aid Foundation. “We are deeply appreciative of the collective efforts of volunteers, donors, sponsors, the youth and staff at Peel CAS’ Trailblazer Youth Centre and community members for their compassion and support.”

The fundraiser included a special presentation to Senator Victor Oh, inducting him into Peel CAS and Peel CAF’s Honour Roll Hall of Fame for his incredible achievements in advocating for the rights of youth and immigrants in Canada. The Honourable Kaleed Rasheed, Minister of Public and Business Service Delivery of Ontario, Shafqat Ali, MP for Brampton Centre and Deepak Anand, MPP for Mississauga-Malton provided keynote addresses to illustrate the importance of community endorsement for youth programs. Peel CAS was thankful to have Acting Inspector Feras Ismail from Peel Regional Police join them to speak about Peel’s Community Safety and Well-Being Plan with respect to youth success. In addition, Dr. David Green, Executive Director from Free For All Foundation discussed partnered youth programs. The event was also made possible through the generous contributions from Raptors 905 and master of ceremonies Courtney Charles, VP Basketball and Franchise Operations at Raptors 905 (MLSE).
