Peel Children’s Aid (Peel CAS) hopes to reach an agreement with CUPE Local 4914 with the assistance of a mediator on September 14, 2016.
“The care and safety of the children and families we work with is our primary focus as we continue our negotiations with the union,” says Rav Bains, CEO, Peel CAS. “Our goal is to arrive at a negotiated collective agreement that reflects the nature of the work done by our unionized staff and recognizes the reality of limited funding.”
The agency must also meet the legislated requirement of a balanced budget. “It is important that our operational costs do not increase to the point where our ability to deliver service to vulnerable children and families in our community is compromised,” adds Bains.
Peel CAS and CUPE Local 4914, representing child protection and support staff, have been working since March 2016 to arrive at a new collective agreement. “We are hopeful that we can reach a settlement on September 14 and avoid any disruption of services to our community,” says Bains.
